URGENT Parent Notice Regarding Contraband on Campus January 16th, 2020

January 16, 2020

Dear Kohala Middle School Parents and Guardians,

The safety and well-being of our students at Kohala Middle School is a high priority and we are committed to providing a secure campus.

We are sending this letter home to inform you that a student brought components of a dangerous device to Kohala Middle School.  School staff took immediate action to confiscate the components, and notified the Hawai‘i Police Department. No one was harmed, and at no time was anyone on campus in danger.

This “dangerous instrument,” is defined as contraband by the Hawaii Administrative Rules, Chapter 19. Violations can be met with school disciplinary actions including detention, suspension and dismissal or, if deemed necessary, the case may be referred to police for further action.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff are of utmost importance.  With this commitment in mind, we ask that you please remind your child about contraband items that may be harmful and pose a health risk to themselves or others.  Please do your part by securing dangerous items at home thoroughly to prevent easy access.

Thank you very much for your attention and we ask for your continued kokua to help keep our campus safe and secure.  If you have any questions, please contact any administrator at (808) 889-7119.

Sincerely,

Alan Brown

Principal
